European Forest Policy in Norway
Norway assumed the chairmanship of the Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forest in Europe (MCPFE) at the beginning of 2008. The first MCPFE Expert Level Meeting hosted under Norwegian chairmanship took place 7-8 May 2008, in Oslo, Norway. Around 90 experts from 55 delegations discussed the MCPFE Work Programme on the Follow-up of the 5th Ministerial Conference in Warsaw, Poland.

The publication consists of the statements by European countries, the European Community as well as by observer organisations and countries during the Conference Sessions. The last issue of the MCPFE Newsletter of the Liaison Unit Warsaw: 5th MCPFE held on 5−7 November 2007, in Warsaw, Poland, concluded with political assurance that Europe’s forests would remain to be managed sustainably towards benefits from the best of their potential. New commitments on promotion of wood as a renewable energy carrier and the role of forest in water protection in the context of climate change were adopted by altogether 40 MCPFE signatories for the implementation at a national level. Rotation in the GCC and the MCPFE chairmanship - time to say goodbye to the Liaison Unit Warsaw.
